Green Dress, Sound of Music Edition
I love this green dress that Maria is wearing when she returns from the convent. As far as I can tell from the internet, it was auctioned off and sold for $45,000.

Green Shoes
There are a few things we love as much as a good green dress. One of them is green shoes. Personally, I have one pair of olive green heels, and I can wear them with nearly every color on the planet. Except green. But that's ok...we cannot wear green dresses all the time.
These, which Miss Hale sent me this morning, are especially awesome. The wild mix of colors is balanced by the almost demure shape of the shoe. And with navy! Ah! be still my heart. From The Sartorialist.

Not All Green Dresses Are A Go
if it was 6 inches longer, it'd be great for a 50's halloween costume |
1993 shape + 1967 colors = travesty |

Let's Just Assume
Let's just assume that this is a green-metallic pattern on this charming dress from Vogue's September Issue, and not a trick of studio lighting. It's easier that way.

Muriel Spark and Green Dresses
"My mother was full of superstitions and presentiments. She wouldn't wear green. But I knew this was mad from the evidence of perfectly happy people I saw wearing green."
--Muriel Spark, Curriculum Vitae
"Elegance appealed to [Muriel Spark]. She said she got inspiration from women's magazines, and when a journalist from the Daily Telegraph interviewed her in 1970, she wore "a 'flowing green dress' and insisted they 'drink Creme de Menthe to match it.'"
--From a review of a Spark biography
"She wore a grey-green dress which picked up the colour of the six Somerville eyes; her sleeves were wide, with a mediaeval look."
--From Loitering with Intent
"This enabled me to wash and repair my shabby green dress, and the change of dress in a way contributed to my peace of mind."
--From Robinson
"The salesgirl shouts at the customer, who, up to now, has been delighted with the bright coloured dress. It is patterned with green and purple squares on a white background, with blue spots within the green squares, cyclamen spots within the purple."
--From The Driver's Seat

Green at the CFDA
This is a fashion icon: Iris Apfel. And she rocks the chartreuse.
And speaking of gowns: I am not sure what I think of a hooded ball gown. But that green! Oh how I love that green!

Green Dresses, Victoria Beckham Edition
(Thanks to Maggie for the invitation to post with her here--she does green dresses proud!)
I'm not gonna lie: Victoria Beckham is not my favorite celebrity in the world. I think it's the haircuts (and haircolors) and the sunglasses and the scowls and the poses. But the woman can wear a green dress! (Extra points for a green dress with long-ish sleeves!)

More Green Wedding Dresses
Not really sure about why so many brides are picking brightly colored wedding dresses, but I wholeheartedly support making more beautiful green dresses. (The ones above are, perhaps, better suited for bridesmaids.)

Green Dress Slideshow
Maybe I'm going overboard today, but it is St. Patrick's Day, and I do love green dresses (and am currently mourning the loss of my favorite one, who's zipper broke last week. But here's a slideshow I made ages ago of the Fall 2010 designer dresses from NYC. I forgot to note who designed these, and some are really quite awful, but, well...here it is:
Anthropologie Day Dresses
I'm not the biggest fan of Anthropologie. If you're clever you can find much better dresses at boutiques and vintage shops. However, they are one of the only nationwide shops that sells a wide range of styles and colors. They always have three or four beautiful green dresses in stock:
Spring Ready, $98 |
Impanema Dress, $328 |
Take Action Dress, $168 |
Gathered Hemlock Dress, $128 |
Vera's Berry Months Dress, $148 |
